Special Olympics

Special Olympics is a community movement , The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help individuals with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs. At the same time, Special Olympics work hard to integrate them into the society and therefore create positive public attitudes towards them.

We pay a great attention to the families of the players with intellectual disabilities and give them awareness and training in all life aspects of their children (health- sexual- physiological,….), and introduce the latest techniques and trends in education and sports training; this is through the frequent conferences and meetings with the families.

Special Olympics helps people with ID find joy, acceptance and success through our leadership program (They can become mentors for other athletes- can train to become coaches and officials and can also move toward a more public role as a speaker or spokesperson) which gives them empowerment, self confidence and sense of integration in the society in which they live.
So provides free health screenings to the athletes in seven different medical tests in which we can improve our ID children physical heath and well being to be able to practice various sports activities

We offers doctors “ health care volunteers” free training on how to deal and conduct medical screening on people with ID.

Through Sports activities SO helps people with ID get more engaged in many aspects ( Physical- health- social- psychological) and therefore be useful and productive members in our community, we also help them get more integrated with non disabled through our Unified Sports program which joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship, acceptance, respect and understanding.

Through local, regional and international meetings, Special Olympics support the intellectually disabled individuals in the community, to strive for their rights, needs, abilities, and their contributions.
